Comparative analysis of professional texts on computer science

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to provide a comparative analysis of professional texts on computer science. VxLAN technology, which is most often used in data centers, was chosen as the topic for the materials. The first text chosen for the analysis is a web journal article, the second is the technical documentation Request for Comments (RFC), the third is a video lecture. The main goal of this work is to examine the selected materials from different perspectives and to determine the extent to which the texts, written and spoken, differ in their use of language and what common features they have. To achieve this goal, the materials are investigated in terms of several discourse features, including language functions, style and genre, cohesion and coherence, and deixis. The work also tries to define whether the analyzed materials are typical examples of their genres and styles.

Comparative analysis of professional texts

This Bachelor´s thesis analyzes three technical texts from the field of electrical engineering. The first text chosen for this analysis is an academic textbook, the second is a technical research article, and the third is a technical lecture. All texts explain the topic of operational amplifiers. This thesis comments on the presented genres and their characteristics; however, its main focus is the analysis of cohesive chains. Types of grammatical and lexical cohesion are analyzed as well as the use of the keywords in the cohesive chains. The items of the identified cohesive chains are integrated in tables and their function in the discourse is commented on. The percentage occurrence of the individual categories of cohesion is calculated and it is implied that lexical cohesion prevails over grammatical. Some interesting distinctions arise from the comparison of the texts and the cohesive devices forming the cohesive chains.

The use of metaphors in various genres of electrical engineering discourse

This bachelor thesis focuses on metaphor as a linguistic phenomenon and its use in various types of texts dealing with transistors, including popularization news articles, online tutorials, textbooks, and research articles. The aim is to map the occurrence and function of metaphorical expressions used in engineering discourse, and to classify them in terms of conceptual metaphors. The thesis also includes a comparison of the texts with respect to the phenomena under investigation.

Some trees flourish, others die?": příležitosti a problémy vzniku videoherního kánonu.

Diplomová práce se pokusí vstoupit do aktuálních diskuzí, spjatých s vnímáním videoher jako umění. Autor práce se zaměří především na problematiku vzniku videoherního kánonu, a bude sledovat vývoj tohoto zábavního průmyslu směrem k čím dál silnější institucionalizaci recepce a hodnocení videoher. Tento vývoj bude zkoumat jednak v kontextu odborném, pozornost bude věnována například vzniku univerzitních pracovišť a odborných monografií o historii videoher. Současně se autor zaměří i na neakademické strategie vytváření hodnot, například na fungování každoročních The Game Awards, nebo na snahu o ustálení normativního žánrového systému tvorby a hodnocení videoher z řad herních vývojářů, žurnalistů i rodící se kritiky. Metodologicky bude práce vycházet z teorie kánonu jiných uměních, se zvláštním zřetelem k vývoji filmového kánonu jako příkladu ustálení nového umění a jeho institucionalizace během 20. století.

Sklizeň brambor na Vysočině - rozhlasová reportáž

Tato bakalářská práce za pomoci rozhlasové reportáže přiblíží posluchači proces sklizně brambor, a to na statku Josefa Vlka v Čelistné nedaleko Pelhřimova. V první, tedy teoretické části, je zmíněné téma reportáže jako rozhlasového žánru s doplněním jeho minulosti i současnosti. Jedna kapitola se také zaměří na základní orientaci o sklizni brambor. Druhá polovina je věnována metodologii tvorby rozhlasové reportáže. Zabývá se přípravou, postupem při nahrávání a následnou postprodukcí.

Characteristic of ESP written communication

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to define what the English for Specific Purposes is, its styles and genres. This thesis is divided into three main parts. In the first part, ESP and its history briefly presented. The styles of ESP are brought up and their uses explained. In the second part I defined the genres of ESP, explained purpose of each and further division. In the third part, examples of the textbook and popular scientific article are extracted, presented, analyzed, and compared. The texts chosen for analysis are from the field of electrical engineering and medicine. The analysis and comparison are carried out in four categories: cohesion, deixis, signposting and hedging. Firstly, the styles in the same field are compared, and secondly the similarities and differences between the fields are presented. All the results are commented on.

The Prager musikalisches Album (1838) and the nineteenth-century salon as cultural practice

This article deals with a collection of songs and piano pieces, the Prager musikalisches Album, published in 1838, asking two central questions. Drawing on different concepts of the musical work (Werkbegriff), I explore whether the album can be considered a work rather than a loose collection of multiple works. Within the musicological discourse there have been many attempts at defining these terms, ranging from quite narrow categorisations based on aspects of instrumentation, musical form, or stylistic matters to more open approaches encompassing the communicative process and viewing the history of genre as cultural history. Drawing on the latter, I suggest that the Prager musikalisches Album is a prime example of collective authorship, which opens up a second question, namely that of authorship. Authorship may embrace aspects of agency that exceed the realms of the person who penned a musical, literary, or artistic work. Indeed, it may be shaped by performers, audiences, presses/ salespeople, dedicatees, critics, patrons, and anyone else who has an impact on any given work at the time of its creation and/or publicization. By taking this perspective, I suggest that the Prager musikalisches Album is both reflective and representative of nineteenth-century salon culture, within whose context the album was embedded. Offering a holistic analysis of the album and its context, I use this article as a springboard to advocate for a musical historiography that takes into account the full breadth of musical culture, and which embraces, besides composers and poets, a number of other cultural agents that are often overlooked within more traditional music-historical considerations.

Gender marking in job titles in French

Předkládaná diplomová práce o alomorfech a alolexech ženského rodu ve francouzštině umožňuje lépe porozumět tvoření ženských forem v oblasti profesních jmen. V první části textu se teoreticky zabýváme okolnostmi a podmínkami, za nichž vzniká potřeba feminizace názvů povolání, a tím, jak se vytváří morfematický řetězec konkrétního feminina. Rozebíráme morfematické a morfologické hledisko, historické souvislosti, potřebu feminizace z právního a politického hlediska, zaměstnání vyžadující feminizaci a faktory ovlivňující volbu procesu tvoření femininního lexika. Zohledníme také názory Francouzské akademie a francouzských slovníků, jako jsou Le Larousse a Le Robert. Stejně tak do diplomové práce zahrnujeme způsoby tvoření a zastoupení feminin v učebnicích FLE. V druhé části textu se věnujeme praktickému výzkumu, v němž zkoumáme vlastní tvorbu užití feminin profesních jmen. Tento výzkum, prováděný pomocí dotazníkové metody, nám dává reálný vhled do praktického užívání, což nám pomáhá získat celkový obraz o tomto relativně novém gramatickém jevu v tak velkém měřítku. Klíčová slova: rod, feminizace, alomorfie, alolexie, morfematické řetězce, francouzský jazyk, tvoření slov, povolání.

(Ne)pohyblivé obrázky hororu. Narativní a stylistická funkce fotografie (nejen) v hororovém filmu.

Cílem práce je otevřít otázku o roli a použití fotografie v hororovém filmu. Práce v prvním kroku bude nastiňovat žánr hororu a ukazovat jej v různých druzích umění. V druhém kroku se práce bude soustředit na hororový film, bude uvedena jeho krátká historie, co diváka na hororu přitahuje a charakteristika hororového filmu. Ve třetím kroku se práce bude zabývat funkcí fotografie jako důležitého prvku v naraci filmu. Přirozeně bude zmíněna i stylistická funkce, kdy fotografie funguje jako trik. Všechny funkce fotografie budou ukázány v příkladech hororových a nehororových filmů.

Vybrané útvary administrativního stylu ve výuce češtiny na střední škole u žáků s ruským mateřským jazykem.

Disertační práce se zabývá problematikou výuky tzv. pokročilého psaní u ruskojazyčných žáků středních škol. V rámci tohoto tématu jsme se zaměřili na konkrétního učivo, slohové útvary administrativního stylu. Cílem práce je zmapovat, jak k výuce přistupují učitelé a jak žáci s ruským mateřským jazykem, a dále posoudit, jaké jsou rozdíly v písemných pracích u žáků s českým mateřským jazykem a ruským mateřským jazykem, a nakonec navrhnout didaktické řešení výuky zvolených slohových útvarů u žáků s ruským mateřským jazykem. Ke zpracování tématu jsme přistupovali metodami kvalitativního výzkumu. Praktická část práce se skládá ze čtyř částí. První na podkladě shromážděných rozhovorů s učiteli analyzuje jejich přístup k výuce daného učiva a shromažďuje poznatky o kritických místech i příklady dobré praxe. Druhá část se zaměřuje na pohled žáků s ruským mateřským jazykem; prostřednictvím rozhovorů jsme zjistili, že žáci mnohdy nedokáží objektivně posoudit své jazykové kompetence a obecně trpí nedostatkem metakognice. Třetí část komparativně z hlediska funkční stylistiky zpracovává v jednotlivých jazykových plánech vzorek 180 písemných prací žáků s českým mateřským jazykem a ruským mateřským jazykem.
